Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. SeekMySpace aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
We recognise that accessibility is an ongoing effort and we are working to bring all areas of our platform into full compliance.
Measures we take
SeekMySpace takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:
- Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchies, landmark regions, and ARIA labels throughout the platform.
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard. Focus indicators are clearly visible.
- Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Responsive design: The platform adapts to all screen sizes and supports zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Alt text: All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are properly marked.
- Form accessibility: Form fields include associated labels, error messages are clearly communicated, and validation errors are announced to screen readers.
- Accessible components: We use Radix UI primitives, which follow WAI-ARIA design patterns for dialogs, menus, tabs, and other interactive components.
- Skip links: Skip-to-content links are provided for keyboard users.
- Reduced motion: We honour the
prefers-reduced-motion media query, reducing or disabling animations for users who prefer it.
Known limitations
Despite our best efforts, some areas of the platform may have accessibility limitations:
- Map components: The interactive map on space detail and listing pages (powered by Leaflet) may have limited accessibility for screen reader users. We provide text-based address information as an alternative.
- User-generated content: Images uploaded by hosts may not always include descriptive alt text. We encourage hosts to provide descriptions when uploading photos.
- Third-party widgets: Some third-party components (payment gateways, analytics) may have their own accessibility limitations that are outside our direct control.
